How it started
The Problem
QuillBot, Smallpdf, Canva, FreshBooks — useful tools locked behind subscriptions that cost $10–$30/month each. Most people only need these tools a few times a month.
The Idea
What if every common productivity tool — AI writing aids, PDF utilities, design tools, business tools — lived in one place and was free, with no account needed?
The Build
We built the first 20 tools in private. Then opened to the public. Users requested more. We shipped more. The library grew to 50+ tools in a matter of months.
Today
51 tools. Hundreds of thousands of uses. Zero subscriptions sold. Zerocosttools is free while in beta and free for early users long after.
What we stand for
Four principles that guide every decision
Privacy First
Every tool runs entirely in your browser. PDFs, images, and text you work with never leave your device. We can't see your files because they never reach our servers.
Actually Free
No free tier with limits. No 'upgrade to unlock'. No credit card required. Every tool works at full capacity — for everyone, forever. Ads keep the lights on.
No Bloat
One tool. One job. Done. No dashboards to navigate, no settings to configure, no account to create. Open a tool, use it, close it. That's the whole product.
Built on Demand
We read every tool request and build the most-wanted ones fast. If something's missing, you can request it. This product is shaped by the people who use it.
Under the hood
Why "browser-based" matters
When a tool says "browser-based", it means your files are processed by JavaScript running on your own device — not on a remote server. Your resume, your invoice, your PDF, your images: they're never transmitted. We couldn't see them even if we wanted to.
This also means Zerocosttools works offline after the initial page load, has no server costs that would push us toward charging users, and runs at full speed since processing happens locally. It's the right architecture for a free, private tool collection.
